We, Too, Sing America: Racist Backlash in the Aftermath of September 11
This short is a poignant and revealing document of the thoughts, hopes and fears of Muslim, Arab-American and South Asian children in the milieu of a country calling for war and unconditional compliance after the events of September 11th. Anxiety gives way to determination and perseverance as each of the children refuse to submit to popular sentiment and prejudice.
Part of the TWN Call to Media Action. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Third World Newsreel made a call to media workshop students and other filmmakers to help document people's reactions and concerns as well as the governmental and media activity that had ensued. The result was a collection of short videos that presented a wide range of issues of concern to communities of color and that asked questions largely overlooked in mainstream media at large.
