Five Minutes For the Soul of America

A surreal and powerful short film that was made in protest against the festivities celebrating the 500th anniversary of Columbus' "discovery" of the Americas. Galindo uses a single shot that encompasses Andean musicians, a football player conquistador and a desolate and ravaged graveyard in his critique, "They call it Discovery or meeting/ To us it is the same dead/ to us it is a day of grief."

TWN acknowledges that in New York we are on the unceded territory of the Lenni Lenape, Canarsie, Shinecock, and Munsee peoples and challenges the harm that continues to be inflicted upon Indigenous and People of Color communities here and abroad, which is why we all need to be part of the struggle for rights, equality and justice.
